How to initiate positive progress

OK, now it’s our turn, how do we continue this progress? Don’t worry, we can start small. Start by smiling at someone say good morning, good evening, good afternoon. Make sure we teach our boys to be men, and our girls to be ladies. Tell the youth that being angry never solved anything long term. Getting out and meeting our neighbors (not just the ones closest to you). Bring back the village, we work better together. There are very few if any community centers in our areas anymore. Let’s get together in the present to protect our future, our kids should not have to deal with any unnecessary struggles, and if some should come up, lets prepare them by teaching them how to deal with it. Prejudices come in many shapes and forms though most of us are guilty of slight prejudices against our own people. Let’s try to bridge the gap, one day and one person at a time.

Happy Obama day everyone. We may never see this
again in our lifetime !!!!!

Proud Proud Proud Proud

I am just checking in to express how I'm feeling. Two Words EXTREMELY PROUD!!!. We can be a nation of one. I wont be naive and think that this will mend all racial lines, but its a start, the air feels clean, people seem less angry. I hope this feeling resonates through all of our people for the next 4 - 8 years and continue on forever. This is the world i want my children to grow up in.

Today's Social Experiment

Yesterday and Today I decided to smile...all day.  No matter what I was feeling I took a deep breath and smiled.  When I walked past people at work in the middle of a hustle and bustle kinda day, they looked up at me and smiled back. Driving in my car, I smiled.  I even allowed last minute drivers who failed  put their turning signal on in a timely manner into my lane.  And smiled as I waved them on.

Amazing how many men think its an open invitation to hit on you, nevertheless I still smile.  I know these days its not easy to see the bright side of things.  I just took a small amount of time out to focus on the good things in life, the little things we neglect to be thankful for regular, Love, Life, health, happiness, safety and sanity.  Some may argue about my sanity...but still I smile.

I hope we can all learn to smile a little more.  It not only changes the outcome of your day, but someone Else's too.

Oiling the Gears of Change - Its Time

I think this victory is the step, push, kick we needed to fall into place and help move everyone in the right direction. As a black woman, mother and American citizen am an overwhelmed with joy and jubilance that words can’t express.

Barak represents what we all have been lacking for sometime; Families believing in each other, standing side to side helping each other along, people being friendly and neighborly to one another. I would like to see the “village” come back together and put true values back into our youth, I would like to see our men and boys absorb this new sense of pride and accomplishment and take it back to help positively influence those around them. I staill have fond memories of growing up knowing everyone in the neighborhood and having most of those neighbors know and respect my grandparents. As if they were their own.

Please remember that racism in its purest form is that which separates us from ourselves. Its been setup to make us hate each other. When we don’t know our fathers, grandfathers or our history how can we truly know ourselves. We are resilient and can get through almost anything, but lets instead use that strength to  channel positivity &  to build on the future. Barak has laid a new foundation and I am ready to build on that. Are You?
